The family of a man fatally shot in a Florida police shooting filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city and police department of Miami Gardens.
Catherine Daniels called 911 for help with Lavall Hall, her schizophrenic son. An officer shot Hall after he attacked two officers with a broomstick.
“What we believe happened was there was a lack of institutional control,” said Bret Rosen, Daniels’s attorney. “Miami Gardens Police Department did not have any control over their officers and it stems from the top.”
Stephen Johnson, the former Miami Gardens Police Chief, is also named in the lawsuit.
